Get involved with GSDS at our Winter 2020 meeting! Join us February 4th at 12:30pm in MRL 2053 for FREE lunch and to help us plan for future talks!
Each quarter GSDS invites a renowned scientist who has faced obstacles throughout their career or contributed significantly to promote diversity. During their visit they host both a diversity seminar with a topic of their choosing and a research talk.
We will be finalizing plans for our upcoming speaker visit on February 18th and 19th with Dr. Lilo Pozzo. Dr. Pozzo is a professor of Chemical Engineering at the University of Washington. The Pozzo research group focuses on the structure of nanomaterials and their macroscopic properties. (http://depts.washington.edu/pozzorg/)
We will also be voting on our next invited speaker! GSDS is currently accepting nominations for a Spring 2020 speaker. If you have anyone in mind who has contributed significantly to promote diversity in STEM send your nominations to Manny Sanchez Zayas (msanchezzayas@ucsb.edu) or Jeffrey Self (jeffreyself@ucsb.edu) before the meeting. Please including a one slide summary of their accomplishments professionally and towards promoting diversity so that they can be voted on during the meeting!
