As a chemist in the Preservation Research and Testing Division at the Library of Congress, Dr. Eric B. Monroe studies the aging and preservation of collection materials. In addition to outlining what this work entails, his talk will detail recent analyses of wax cylinders used to record sound as early as 1890.
