Consequently, we might\u00a0sometimes lose sight of how our scientific interests can take us out of the lab and into the surrounding community. Compiled below are some upcoming science events in\u00a0the\u00a0Santa Barbara area to consider fitting into your understandably busy schedules.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>Santa Barbara County Science Fair<\/h3>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/sbsciencefair.org\/data\/logo-100.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"100\" height=\"101\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The annual <a href=\"http:\/\/sbsciencefair.org\/index.php\">Santa Barbara County Science Fair<\/a> will take\u00a0place on Friday, March 10th, in Corwin Pavilion at UCSB. If you are interested in volunteering as a judge for the morning event, the deadline to register is <strong>this Friday, February 24th<\/strong>. Contact <a href=\"mailto:judging@sbsciencefair.org\">judging@sbsciencefair.org<\/a> for more information.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>MOXI<\/h3>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/www.loyalkaspar.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/moxi_logo-244x100.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"244\" height=\"100\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.moxi.org\">Wolf Museum of Innovation and Exploration<\/a> (MOXI) is opening <strong>this Saturday,\u00a0February 25th<\/strong>. Located downtown near the Amtrak station, the MOXI offers a variety of engaging science demonstrations and exhibits. To get a sense of the space, check out the\u00a0video below (<em>via<\/em> the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.independent.com\/news\/2017\/feb\/16\/moxi-ignites-learning\/\">Santa Barbara Independent<\/a>) taken from the members-only opening a couple weeks ago.<\/p>\n<p><iframe width=\"400\" height=\"225\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/sw5JDGEDmwg?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>Eat Your Science<\/h3>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/artsandlectures.sa.ucsb.edu\/Media\/3475\/PerformanceImage\/3475-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"206\" height=\"206\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Alton Brown, known for his several hosting personalities on the Food Network, is performing at Campbell Hall on <strong>Wednesday, March 15th<\/strong>. <a href=\"https:\/\/artsandlectures.sa.ucsb.edu\/Details.aspx?PerfNum=3475\">Tickets<\/a> are available through UCSB Arts &amp; Lectures at a discounted price of $22. His live show is filled with comedy, music, and food science experiments. You can listen to <a href=\"http:\/\/kcrw.co\/2l4PF7N\">his interview<\/a>\u00a0on KCRW with Good Food&#8217;s Evan Kleiman in\u00a0which he talks about the show.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>March for Science<\/h3>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/upload.wikimedia.org\/wikipedia\/en\/c\/cd\/March_for_Science.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"251\" height=\"251\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marchforscience.com\">March for Science<\/a> is set for <strong>Earth Day, Saturday, April 22nd<\/strong>. Inspired by the Women&#8217;s March, the March for Science aims to reaffirm science as a democratic value in addition to supporting the vital work of scientists in the public sector. Although\u00a0the main event is occurring in Washington, D.C., a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/events\/241005116351627\/\">satellite march<\/a>\u00a0is being organized for Santa Barbara as well.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>As STEM graduate students, we are often localized to our labs and department hallways.
